The philosophy of The Cottage School maintains that the majority of children will benefit from The Cottage School program. Therefore, there is no pre-admission testing or interview required. It may be helpful to meet with a child before beginning a program to determine the best class fit. Enrollment is on a space available basis.
The Cottage School accepts applications on a rolling basis. Available spaces are filled as applications are returned. Typically, a child begins the program at two years of age attending playgroup or our two, three, or five-day per week preschool programs. We maintain on-going waitlists for children that have not reached the age of 2, current and new families, for classes that have reached capacity. The wait list is generated by the order in which applications are received. A completed application with application fee must be returned in order for a child to be placed on the waitlist. If an opening occurs during the school year, the next applicant who has reached age 2 years will be offered the space. For a new academic year, we inform families in February of openings for the following September.
Please note that classes are not necessarily formed by age and therefore we cannot guarantee the age make-up of any particular class. Classes are grouped each year according to enrollment. However, younger children tend to enroll for playgroup or our 2-, 3- or 5-day pre-school programs, and older children for 3- or 5-day programs. Occasionally, a 4- or 5-year- old child will enroll in a 2-day program in order to establish priority for a 3- or 5-day opening. .
Enrollment priority is given to:
Current students who wish to increase number of school days per week.
Siblings of current students.
Children of the school staff and legacy families.
The Cottage School has a non-discriminatory policy, accepts students on a year-round, non-selective basis, and offers a Tuition/Work Exchange Program.
The Peapack Reformed Church and Bagelinos offer a need based scholarships.
